The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is encouraging community members to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May 11th, by volunteering at a local collection site. Stamp Out Hunger is the nation’s largest one-day food collection effort and the Food Bank is seeking volunteers to help collect and sort food donations at post offices in Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, and Charlottesville. Volunteer shifts will run between 1pm and 7:30pm, depending on the location. Details can be found at BRAFB dot ORG.

The most needed food donations include canned fruits, meats, and vegetables low in sodium and sugar. Paper products, diapers, and personal care items are also encouraged. Join the Kluge-Ruhe team as a volunteer guide. New volunteer training will be held on on Monday, June 3rd at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, located at 400 Worrell Drive in Charlottesville. Volunteer guides play an essential role in engaging audiences and enhancing the visitor experience. Volunteers share their passion and enthusiasm for art while helping to enrich the community. Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary, based in Nelson County, is dedicated to creating a vibrant and compassionate future for wildlife in Virginia and beyond. The devoted team of wildlife rehabilitators and volunteers rescue and care for more than 900 animals annually from across Virginia. A five-cent plastic bag tax is in effect in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. The Sierra Club Piedmont Group encourages you to use, reuse and recycle reusable bags rather than using plastic or paper bags for groceries and merchandise. You can recycle clean, gently used reusable bags, which the Sierra Club will redistribute  to individuals who need them. The drop-off locations are: "Refill Renew" at 171-B Allied Lane off of McIntire Road; and The Scrappy Elephant, 1745 Allied St Suite C, both in Charlottesville.
